Coiste Na nÓg

Formerly known as Bórd na nÓg, our Coiste na nÓg section is as strong as ever this year. We have fielded teams from under 10 right up to under 16 or Juvenile with tremendous success and the season is yet to finish. A great debt of gratitude is due to those clubmembers and parents who give of their time and services right throughout the season. Without their dedication and committment we would not be in such a strong position at underage level. This is the lifeblood of the club and the community and the services being offered in this area by the club are second to none.

At under 10 level we have a regular training session with an attendance of up tp 50 young boys. These range in age fromUnderage Players celebrating the Adults Victory in 2002 as young as six right up to ten. Paddy Sinnott and Milo O'Connor are putting in great work with the young players at under 10 and they are being ably assisted by legions of parents and helpers on Friday evenings. The under 10 team has travelled around the North Wexford area to play matches against tems of similar age groups in other clubs. They have traveeled to the pitches of Oulart, Gorey, Monamolin and Camolinto play against such clubs as Craanford, Cloughbawn, Oulart - The Ballagh, Marshalstown, Naomh Eanna, Rapparees - Starlights, HWH Bunclody, Buffers Alley, Rathnure, Oylegate - Gelnbrien, Kilanerin / Ballyfad, Askamore - Kilrush, Ferns St. Aidans, St. Patricks and Monageer Boolavogue in the Pat Neville & Sons Under 10 Ground Hurling competition.

They have also taken part in a 12 hour football marathon in Castletown in aid of Our Lady's Hospital for sick children in Crumlin. A worthy cause and it's good to see that the youngsters are being shown how sport can help others as well as offering a great outlet for all that energy. All in all a very busy first season for some of the young players and there are a number of young starlets who are being watched for the future.

Leighton Gleeson in Action for the Adult's teamThe Under twelves have qualified for the latter stages of their championships in both hurling and football. A strong panel of 24 was available recently for the football semi-final victory against horeswood in Ballygarrett, while the same team saw a slight lead evaporate and become a narrow defeat against Ballyfad two days later in hurling. This was the second last game of the series and puts the team into second place behind Ballyfad in the group. So far so good for a panel of players showing promise and threatening success under the stewardship of Mick Byrne, Joe Casey and Tony Freegrove.

Our Under 14's have also qualified for their quarter final at home to our ladies Island, while they still have a bit of work to do in the hurling championship. Their mentors of Dick Gahan and Mick Byrne will be pushing hard for a greater effort in the last of their championship matches.

At Juvenile or Under 16 level, the Boys have already established themselves as county championships in the Football Championship. After a tough draw in Wexford Park they fought out a Hard earned Victory in Bellefield, Enniscorthy against a battling Kilmore side to eventually retain the crown they won in 2003 when they played with Buffers Alley under the "Macamore Gaels". Great credit is due to the mentors Seamus Kennelly, Eddie Redmond and Dick Gahan. The 16's are now actively engaged in their hurling championship and have ahd a couple of good victories to date. Another win or two should see them safely through to the knockout stages in the championship.
